David and the bread of the Presence

When challenged about his disciples plucking grain on the Sabbath, Jesus points to David, who ate the consecrated bread when he and his men were hungry. The argument is that David's need took precedence over ritual rules, and that Jesus is greater than the temple and Lord of the Sabbath.

Jesus says the queen of Sheba came from the ends of the earth to hear Solomon's wisdom, and that 'something greater than Solomon is here'. Solomon, the wise son of David who built the temple, serves as a measuring stick for Jesus.
