The fall of Eli's house

A man of God tells Eli that his sons Hophni and Phinehas will die on the same day and that his family will lose the priesthood. Both sons die in the battle with the Philistines, Eli dies when he hears of it, and Solomon later removes Abiathar, Eli's descendant, from the priesthood, in a stated fulfillment of the word spoken at Shiloh.

When: Eli's era, c. 1100–1050 BC; Abiathar deposed, c. 970 BC.
