Thirty pieces of silver

Zechariah takes his wages of thirty pieces of silver and throws them into the house of the LORD. Matthew connects this to Judas' payment for betraying Jesus, and attributes the quotation to Jeremiah, likely blending Zechariah with Jeremiah's potter imagery (Jeremiah 18–19; 32).

When: Zechariah, c. 520–480 BC (chapters 9–14 are debated); Judas' betrayal, c. AD 30–33.
