Assyria, the rod of God's anger

Isaiah says God uses Assyria as a rod against a godless nation, and then will punish Assyria for its arrogance. Assyria destroyed the northern kingdom in 722/721 BC, and it then fell to Babylon and the Medes by 609 BC.

When: Isaiah, c. 740–701 BC; Nineveh fell 612 BC, Assyria's last remnant 609 BC.
